Dr. Olubunmi Afonja
National President, IDU-USA, Inc.
Dr. Olubunmi Afonja is the daughter of Dr. Lateef Emiola (from Alafara Olubadan) and Mrs. Otolola Emiola (nee Alabi) (from Isale Ijebu), she spent most of her childhood and early adulthood in Ibadan. She started elementary school at Sacred Heart Primary School, Ring Road Ibadan and completed this at the Staff School, University of Ibadan. She then attended International School, University but had to leave to complete secondary school at Government Girls’ College Maiduguri when her father accepted faculty position at the Ramat Polytechnic in Maiduguri.
She completed a year of advanced level courses at the Polytechnic Ibadan before proceeding to the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan where received her undergraduate degree in Medicine and Surgery (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S., equivalent to MD). Following a year of rotating internship at the University College Hospital (UCH), she came to the USA to pursue postgraduate residency training. She completed general pediatric residency training at the State University of New York, Health Science Center in Brooklyn (SUNY Downstate Brooklyn) and then proceeded to do her sub-specialty training in childhood cancers and hematologic disorders at New York University (NYU). Dr. Afonja is board certified in general pediatrics and pediatric hematology/oncology. Dr. Afonja has also pursued and obtained a Masters degree in Business Administration from the George Washington University. Dr. Afonja has been actively involved in basic science research with several published manuscripts in peer reviewed medical journals.
Dr. Afonja is married and blessed with three wonderful children. She joined the New Jersey Chapter in 2009, served as the General Secretary of IDU USA in October 2010 – 2018 and is currently the National President of IDU USA Inc (2018 – 2020).
Mr. Kunle Akinola,
Vice-President, IDU-USA, Inc.
Mr. Adekunle Akinola was born in Ibadan to Alhaji Lateef & Alhaja Silifat Akinola, Nigeria. I’m a true son of the soil from the Agbo-ile Akinola at Isale-Osi compound.
An entrepreneur, Mr. Akinola started Ramzat Auto & Wheels Inc more than 20 years ago and later became the Chairman and CEO. Throughout his business career, he is always very humble and he has the ability to help others. He is quite passionate about the Ibadan Descendants Union and works hard to maintain the integrity of the Organization.
Mr. Akinola was the Public Relations Officer of the Dallas Chapter for 4 years and later became the Chapter. He is currently the National Vice President.
A student at Adesola high school Aperin Ibadan and later the Government Girls Secondary School Kastina State, in Nigeria, she relocated to the United States in the 1980’s for her university education. She holds a BSc. from Emmanuel College, Boston, MA, and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix, Tampa, FL.
She has been involved in many IDU programs within Central Florida. She was elected as the Assistant National General Secretary of IDU, USA at the National Convention held in New Jersey on September 29th, 2018 a position she still holds.She has been progressively employed at the Citibank and currently holds a position as Assistant Vice President. Mrs Ibironke Adebanjo is happily married to Prince Lawrence Ajibola Adebanjo blessed with four children.
A kind-hearted humanitarian, Mrs. Adebanjo is an ordained minister. She is known for her active involvement in Central Florida Communities as she likes to help people.
Mrs. Rashidah Afolarin
National Treasurer, IDU-USA, Inc.
Born and raised in at Oke-Offa Atipe in Ibadan, Mrs. Rashidah Afolarin is a member of the New Jersey Chapter of the Ibadan Descendants Union, where she serves as the Treasurer since 2014. She was educated at Ikolaba Grammar School, Agodi Gate, and later completed her post-secondary educatio in the United States. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing at Pennsylvania State University, and her Master’s degree in Nursing at Walden University at Minneapolis, MN.
An passionate volunteer, Mrs. Afolarin devotes her spare time to teach youth in religious studies, and participates in charity organizations to assist needy families. Mrs. Afolarin enjoys cooking, teaching, traveling.
Mrs. Taiwo Hazzanat Emiola
National Social Secretary, IDU-USA, Inc.
Alhaja Mrs. Taiwo Hazzanat Emiola was born to the family of Ladipo – Late Chief Alhaji S. O. Ladipo and Alhaja Mrs. S. A. Ladipo of Ile-Oriolowo Compound Oritamerin Ibadan. Her dad was the Son of Late Chief Yessufu Ladipo -Balogun of Ibadanland, the Mogaji of Ile-oriolowo compound, Chief Accountant of Cocoa Board and Trust, and the President of Ibadan -Muslim Progressive comittee. Mrs. Emiola lives in Riverview, Florida, where she joined the Central Florida Chapter of IDU in 2014.
A student at Queens School Ibadan and University of Ibadan, in Nigeria, Mrs. Emiola relocated to the United States in 1999. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from State College of Florida and a Master’s degree in Nursing from University of South Tampa, Tampa, Fl. She is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner, a member of Tampa bay Advanced Nurse Practitioners, and American Association of Nurse Practitioner.
She has been involved in many IDU programs within Central Florida as a Financial Secretary. She was elected as the National Social Secretary of IDU, USA at the National Convention held in New Jersey on September 29th, 2018 a position she still holds. . Mrs Taiwo Emiola is happily married to Alhaji Morufdeen Emiola and blessed with three beautiful children.
Mrs Emiola is a devoted Muslim, event planner and decor as a passion. She is actively known for her involvement in the Muslim communities both in Florida and in National Council of Nigerian Muslims Organization, USA (NCNMO). She likes to help people and organize social events.
Mogaji Abiola Iyiola
National Secretary, IDU-USA, Inc.
He attended Saint David’s Primary School, Kudeti and Eleta High School where he obtained his primary and secondary education respectively. He later earned his B.Sc. at the University of Ibadan and a Diploma in Law at Lagos State University. In 1999, he was awarded the Chevening Scholarship by the British Government for a postgraduate study at the prestigious University of Manchester as part of an international scholarship scheme, which recognizes and enables students with leadership qualities.
Abiola completed an internship program at the Law Centres Network, United Kingdom with a primary assignment at the Plumstead Community Law Centre and Thamesmead Law Centre. He later returned to Nigeria to work at the Legal Resources Consortium headed by the current Attorney General of Ekiti State, Mr. Olawale Fapohunda.
In 2003, Abiola was selected as a member of a team by the British Council in Lagos in conjunction with the Human Rights Institute of South Africa (HURISA) to study the Parliamentary sessions in Johannesburg and Cape Town, both in South Africa.
In all the foreign assignments and companies where he worked, Abiola left his footprint as a dedicated, committed, resourceful and result-oriented individual with a unique mental attitude for achieving unmatched corporate goals.
He emigrated to United States of America in April 2003 where he continued his Post-Baccalaureate studies in Public Relations at the Texas Southern University, and MBA at the University of Houston.
His exemplary leadership qualities have earned him a key position on several boards and commissions in Nigeria, South Africa, London and United States.
Abiola is married and blessed with two children; a son and a daughter. He is currently the Vice President of IDU Houston Chapter and the National General Secretary of IDU USA.
Mrs. Adebukola Oyejobi
National Public Relations Officer
Mrs. Ade Oyejobi was born at Ile Alagba Inalende to the family of Alhaja Sanusi Oyetoro Akinwumi and Alhaja Oyeronke Oyejobi (Iya Olole). She attended The Apostolic Primary school, Oke Agala, St Louis Grammar School, Mokola, and completed her post secondary education at The Polytechnic Ibadan and the University of Lagos.
Mrs. Oyejobi is an active member of Houston Chapter of Ibadan Descendants Union as well as other humanitarian organizations in the Houston Area.
She is presently the Vice President of Nitex & Associates Inc, and Owner of Ade Oyejobi State Farm Insurance Agency. She is married and blessed with five children.
